The lady said something in Korean. Then quickly replied in English:
“Oh, sorry, I thought you were that Korean group from earlier.”
“Oh, are you Korean?” I responded
“No, just know a few words.”
“Wow, your English is also really good!”
“Have to be, for business”
“Are you from China?” my taxi-driver asked
“No. I was born and raised in Canada. My mother is from rural China. She grew up in the villages”
“Ah. Your mom must be very strong. How’d she get to Canada from the villages?”
“I have no idea…”
“How much is this?”
“$300 HKD”
“Okay, thanks,” I replied, and started to walk away
“$200? Okay, $100,” she shouted back at me, while I was long gone
Wonder why she even bothered to say $300 HKD in the first place.
