A lot of people know the Latin phrase “Carpe Diem,” which means “Seize the day”
But what about the night owls, like me?
I consistently stay up past 2 AM during the break, despite the rule I’ve adopted from HIMYM (How I Met Your Mother, my favorite TV show), that NOTHING GOOD EVER HAPPENS AFTER 2 AM.
Okay, so maybe 3 AM is a bit late. Or maybe I am just up really early?
Nevertheless, I think a lot of other creative thinkers share this concept with me:
I love working late at night
Sometimes I stay up late to write a blog post like this one. Other times I feel the need to practice and create magic for some reason. One night, I was up at 4 AM studying Excel and Finance. Just yesterday, I managed to get in bed before midnight, and somehow fell asleep when the sun started rising because I was so determined to finish a book on my new Kindle. And let’s not forget all those amazing papers that I’ve managed to write and finish after midnight that miraculously astonishes my professors that they have to give me an A (This last example was sarcastic. Sarcasm doesn’t work too well on the internet, does it?)
I understand completely why I do this: I think better when alone and in solitude. My thoughts flow better and I feel more encouraged to actually do work, especially when 1) the sun is out, and 2) it’s relatively late / dark and 3) I can work in privacy, and 4) the procrastination & panic monster is screaming in my head (this only applies to assignment due dates)
If you failed to seize the day because you procrastinated and were a bit lazy or burned out, you can still adopt this principle like me to salvage your night:
Carpe Noctem: Seize the Night
“It’s easier to stay up till 6 AM than to wake up at 6 AM” – Night Owls everywhere
