I cannot count how many times I’ve been told, or thought to myself, “there is NO way that anyone will even look at this message, nevertheless give me a reply”
But I still did it anyway. I still sent the emails.
Okay, I probably can count… Let’s see:
- I messaged Vinh Giang, one of my biggest inspirations, who is an Asian-Australian entrepreneur, magician, keynote speaker, and YouTuber. He responded… three times!!! I hope to meet him one day.
- I emailed Dr. Adam Grant, the highest rated AND youngest tenured UPenn Wharton Professor, author (highly recommend his books), and oddly enough also a magician. I received a response within two days, as well an invitation to attend future UPenn lectures (I’ve attended one so far)… I don’t even know how I got through to his personal email.
- I just recently inquired about a possible internship with R3 in Singapore, despite the fact that they had no internship openings on their site. I emailed, they responded, and I now have a conference call set up next Thursday.
My next targets will be Tim Ferriss, Dr. Angela Duckworth, Chris Ramsay, and Seth Godin. Yes, I know that sounded creepy. No, I don’t care.
“If you want to achieve greatness stop asking for permission”
and here’s a cheesy one, but it’s so true:
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” – Wayne Gretzky
So start taking initiative, and start sending emails!!!
Good Luck.
